Dave Pratt finds home back on terrestrial radio

It has been over two and a half years since Dave Pratt received the CBS Radio budget-cutting axe from KMLE Country 108, and it’s been two and a half years away from being heard by most Valley listeners on their radios at all.

Starting on August 15th ,Dave Pratt will return again to terrestrial radio, this time on modern/alternative rock station X103.9. Pratt and his “Dave Pratt Live” morning show crew have been doing an internet radio show every morning via DavePrattLive.com. Landing a chance for the show to air on terrestrial radio enables many more listeners to become loyal listeners.

With the news, Pratt prides himself on the new affiliation with Riviera Broadcast Group focusing on catering to the state of Arizona but assures his most recent venture, “Dave Pratt Live” will be heard as it had been broadcasting online for the past two months.

Pratt’s morning crew include co-host Kassi Jayde, a former assistant producer with JohnJay & Rich on Clear Channel Kiss FM, Channel 12 news anchor Mark Curtis, voiceover, imaging and production artist, Rob Trygg, and assistant producer Alexis Rodriguez.

Beginning August 15, “Dave Pratt Live” will be heard from 6-10am on X103.9 (KEXX).

Phoenix market veteran and “Morning Mayor” Dave Pratt makes his long-awaited debut this morning on his very own internet radio, podcast/videocast morning show DavePrattLive.com. The show will stream live from 6-10am each weekday morning.

Pratt is paired with co-host Kassi Jayde, a former assistant producer with JohnJay & Rich on Clear Channel Kiss FM. Other notable members of the show will include Channel 12 news anchor Mark Curtis, voiceover, imaging and production artist, Rob Trygg, and assistant producer Alexis Rodriguez.

Adjustment at CBS Radio Phoenix brings another new PD for KOOL

Some minor adjustments over at CBS Radio Phoenix includes the naming of Rick Gillette as 94.5 KOOL-FM’s new program director. Jeff Garrison has had the duties since August 2010. Both had joined the cluster in early August with Garrison as KOOL, KMLE PD and Operations Manager, and Gillette named as PD of top 40/rhythmic 101.5 JamZ (KZON).

Gillette now ads programming duties under his belt for KOOL, while Garrison continues to be OM of the cluster and PD of KMLE Country.

Jackie Morales returns to JamZ

CBS Radio Phoenix’s 101.5 JamZ has already found a replacement for midday jock, Sugabear, since he left for a CBS station in Sacramento. Jackie Morales returns to the shift she originally had in 2007 when 101.5 JamZ was born. She begins January 3.

Reports say 101.5 JamZ (KZON) midday personality, Sugabear, is leaving the CBS Radio Phoenix rhythmic Top 40 station for a new opportunity. He is headed to Sacramento’s CBS Radio rhythmic Top 40 KSFM for nights, working along with program director Byron Kennedy, who had programmed KZON in Phoenix for a brief period of time while programming KSFM.

Sugabear joins KSFM weekday nights, 7pm-midnight, starting January 12.

Lady La to JamZ mornings

Lady La joins CBS Radio Phoenix’s rhythmic/Top 40 station, 101.5 JamZ, as the new morning personality. She was last heard doing mornings with Joey Boy on competing station, Power 98.3, until late July.

Since the departure of JamZ morning personality, Gringo Suave, CBS Radio Phoenix has been searching for a replacement. Lady La can now be heard on 101.5 JamZ every weekday morning from 6-10am.

Karlie Hustle joins JamZ

Karlie Hustle has become one of a handful of former-Power 98.3 staff to join competing top 40/rhythmic 101.5 JamZ. She is brought in under a fairly new program director for the CBS Radio station, Rick Gillette. Hustle will be on-air during the weekends.

Dave Pratt eager to return on-air, shares info on current contract

Phoenix radio veteran Dave Pratt has recently been expressing his desires to return on-air via his Facebook and emails, confidently stating that he feels he will return on-air soon, though no specifics were given on what Valley stations may accommodate him.

Pratt has been away from mornings on CBS Radio Phoenix’s KMLE Country 108 since December 2008, but his contract is still in-effect to this day.

In a mass-email sent out today, Pratt updated his mailing list on how summer has been, his latest projects, and his hope to return on-the-air, depending on what CBS Radio does with his contract on its final year.

Pratt could return in as little as a few months if all goes his way.

“My hope is that CBS will not pick up the option on my final year,” wrote Pratt. “Sure, it’s been a long, paid vacation, but I am more than ready to get back in the air chair.”

Under the CBS Radio contract, Pratt remained off the air since December 2008 and has been spending more time with his family, remaining active in the community and blogging daily on AZCentral.com.

“If CBS does not pick up the option, I will be back in a few months,” Pratt wrote. He’s not ruling out rock, talk, country or sports.

Radio Free Phoenix turns six

Radio Free Phoenix (RadioFreePhoenix.com), the free-form internet rock radio station based in the Valley, turns six years old this week.

Founded by Phoenix radio veteran Andy Olson in 2004, Radio Free Phoenix has continued to gain a loyal group of listeners that grow each year. The station prides itself on being free-form and on the internet. The on-air lineup is made of terrestrial radio veterans– a majority being from the Phoenix market–who have made the transition into the world of internet radio.

Some Radio Free Phoenix names that longtime Valley radio listeners would remember include Andy Olson (KSTM, KSLX, KZON), Liz Boyle (KOOL, KDKB, KESZ), Dave Cooper (KZON, KYOT, KJZZ), and Angela Allen (KOOL).

CBS Phoenix: New Operations Manager, JamZ gets a PD

Just announced this morning, CBS Radio Phoenix adds two to the staff effective immediately.

Jeff Garrison, Vice Present of Programming of CBS Radio’s Country stations, has been named operations manager of KOOL, KMLE, and KZON, with additional programming duties for KOOL and KMLE.

Garrison is not new to the Phoenix market, or KMLE, having been KMLE’s program director from 1996 to 2002. He comes over most recently from being program director of CBS Radio’s country station in Houston, KILT.

In addition, Rick Gillette has been named program director of 101.5 JamZ (KZON). He comes most recently from programming Chicago’s KISSFM, a Top 40 station.
