Sandusky-owned rock station KDKB make changes to their on-air lineup to be in effect on Monday. Exiting, are JR Edwards and Mary Stoddard of the JR, Mary & Watson Morning Show.
Watson, the morning show producer, will continue with the station doing the midnight-6am shift. Program Director Steve King moves from middays to mornings, 6-10am. Ruby Cheeks moves a slot earlier to middays as Hammer gets afternoon drive. Evenings are taken care of by Lee Stone, and no Alice Cooper overnights. We’d like your thoughts – Comment Below

Feel bad for them, but thought they were the second best classic rock station in the valley. Also they really need a shift change in the weekend morning slot… except for a few friends we change the dial on the weekend until 2-3p then change it back..irratating..

Somehow I just knew that Steve would end up in the morning show time slot. He certainly seems to have been working himself in to it since Dock “left” last year. What a boneheaded move. Too bad for KDKB. My radio stations have all been set elsewhere now. If they land on another station here (hopefully soon!), I will be sure to listen.

I thought JR & Mary were an asset to KDKB. They will be missed. Nothing against Steve King (he is also an excellent on-air personality), but mornings just won’t be the same! This isn’t a big enough change to make me turn my back on KDKB… they still have the best music for my taste.

I like the JR and Mary show. I’m glad Mary replace Marcy. JR was very funny and Mary was pretty good. I will miss them. It’s not the same in the mornings. I’ve been a listener since 1979. I’ve been thru a lot of morning show changes.
I also really miss Alice Cooper’s show. And why take off Little Steven’s Underground Garage show? That show is awesome!
I’m having trouble listening the station so much now. Too bad.

Nothing stays the same. KDKB is no longer my favorite station. It has become generic. I loved hearing JR, Mary and Watson’s banter on my way to work. They were just the shot of adrenalin needed. I would always arrive at work in good humor because I laughed most of the way to work.
After a week of being bored by Steve King and yawning on my way to work, I have decided to go back to listening to CD’s.
And now to have lost Alice at night as well? What do I need to listen to KDKB for anymore? Like I said, I can spin the tunes I listened to on KDKB in my CD player.
So long KDKB. It was entertaining while it lasted but I’m gone now.

After stumbling upon KDKB morning show about 2 years ago with J.R., Mary and Watson I never turned my dial. I too agree they were what got the morning off to a GREAT start. How many times I left for work early just to hear the banter between the 3 of them. Found myself in tears many times from laughter after the 30 minute drive. They took some things to the edge. Nothing personal with Steve, I’m sure he can spin a song like any other DJ, but I enjoyed the edgy side the 3 of them gave the show. I tried to listen to the show this week and it was as if Watson had been transformed, no humor, no edginess. so dry and Steve was the same. Thank you JR, Mary and (former form of) Watson for the last 2 years of a great wake up show, but so long… movin up the dial, music is great, but if the personality spinning it is dry, then I’m not wasting my time listening to your show…. Good bye KDKB !

Wow, what a change and it is not for the good. That is if you like listening to a no personality DJ. The station almost reminds me of standing in an elevator listening to elevator music (boring). I loved listening to the banter of JR and Mary w/ Watson. I want music don’t get me wrong, but I also want some humor to break up the tension….

I have been listening to KDKB since 1989. Laughter is truley the best medicine! TIM and MARK were AWESOME. I would schdule teaching my college classes around their prank phone calls. When they left, I bounced around the morning shows. Once you scheduled JR and Marcy, I thought this would be the perfect show once you get a female DJ that would give the crap back to JR! Hello Mary! I found myself laughing histerically on the way to work and in my office at school. Steve, stick to what you are good at, program directing, not DJ. Say your sorry, bring them back, and give them a raise. If you can’t handle the phone complaints…take it as compliment because everybody was listening to your station!

Trying to “fix” something that was not broken, KDKB has left a Tool on the morning show. I’ve had KDKB on my presets forever, and although I wont replace it… I will NOT be listening to the tool in the morning. Guess it’s CD’s till lunch time.

I hate to see anyone get fired but the ratings tell the story and they were the worst of the morning shows. They really did not talk about anything but say a lot of ooh and ahs. Not sure about the girl, she seemed like
she did not have a clue and the sex jokes got old. She had no class.
JR seemed ok but together, it just did not work. Let’s give Steve King a chance. I will start listening to KDKB again now that this silly morning show is gone. I do hope they get employment but not in the radio business.

For those of you who miss Alice Cooper, he’s still on the air in the area, just on another station (KSLX?). I now have no reason to listen to KDKB in the morning. I generally switched between Holmberg’s Morning Sickness and JR, Mary, & The Watson to get away from the obnoxious commercial breaks (I don’t care if advertising is necessary, I won’t listen to it). Now I don’t have anything to switch to during Holmberg’s commercials. KUPD now has the only morning show worth listening to in the Phoenix area.

I liked SOME of JR & Mary… they made me laugh often but thought they were a bit over the top with the vulgar language and crude humor. I would not listen to them if the kids were in the car.

I was horrified when my alarm went off and there was a dull voice coming from the speakers. My first thought was my kids and changed the dial when i wasn’t home. I soon realized JR amd Mary weren’t on. I thought maybe a vacation after the holidays. But no, they have been replaced. Bad idea, really bad idea. I stuck with KDKB after Tim and Mark left. And that wasn’t easy..and finally someone entertaining comes along and you go and mess it up!! I have listened to KDKB since the late 70’s when I was in high school. I remember Nuclear Ned and Rump Ranger. I won’t be listening to your show anymore. Sorry!!!!

The KDKB Morning show is boring now. I don’t know how this will improve ratings. It has no feeling or personality…it is just like listening to a CD. Morning radio shows are supposed to have an edge to them. In the afternoon I just want to hear music. I have been putting off looking at HD radios or SIRIUS but maybe now is the time. I hope KDKB morning show gets some spice to it and the JR and Marry land somewhere.

The music is what matters on any station, so this will not make me change my dial. I have been listening to KDKB since it took to the airwaves, so I can’t turn my back on them because of a few personnel changes.

Too bad Sandusky likes to mess around with a good thing. It’s ok to shake it up once in awhile, but this is getting to be a regular piece of business for them. The drive in and drive home need to be fun and uplifting, which Steve is not. I no longer listen to KBKD during the week, unless I catch Ruby. I used to listen at night, but that stopped when Alice went away. I stopped tuning in on the weekends, when they dropped DMcB and Little Stevie. HoH and Danny Z are the only good things left. What’s the point?

I’ve listened to KDKB for a long time. They do play everything that rocks for my taste, but they have no idea what a good morning show needs! Tim and Mark were amazing, and entertaining and woke me up. And, for me at least, JR, Mary, and the Watson woke me up. Bad call on their part I think. It’s not going to make me stop listening, but I don’t like Steve King. They just lost a morning listener.

Wow…what a wake up call no morning show on KDKB for the drive to work and no Nights with Alice Cooper for the late drive home….You corp guys really know how to mess with a good thing and 2 at that…If it was about the ratings then talk to the people and change it up but don’t change the people until you have exhausted all avenues. This guy Steve has absolutely no personality on the morning. I have a 10 year old neice that is funnier then him. Maybe you guys want to give her a job? She would rock the socks off of KDKB…..If you are so into change, how about mixing up you’re music more? It’s like listening to a AM station from the 70’s that only has 12 songs on it’s playlist…Dig deep and you will find some amazing rock and roll…For me I will not be listening to you’re radio station and I will remove my self from you’re mailing list. well my comments are not much different. JR, Mary and the Watson were GREAT in the morning and was just what I needed to kick start my day. Unfortunately, I have stopped listening to KDKB altogether and have gone back to listening to my CDs or IPOD. KDKB has lost the spark they once had when they let JR and Mary go. Now they are a lifeless radio station that has nothing different to offer. With the exception of Ruby, but she is only on for part of the day. The wall infront of me has more life and personality than the guy in the morning now. WTF!!!

I use too listen too mexican stations banter. but got tired of it, and just start too listen too Jr And MARY (Waston ). They had me rolling i drive too work and listento them, then jump in my truck and listen too them. it was good laughs listening too mary getting on their ass and cougar of the week. comedian’s stopping by and just the good laughs. but like all dumbass companies if aint broke, then brake it. It was a good combo that now lead to boredom.I will probaly just listen too country or my cd’s hopefully some stupid driver get me too laugh while i work.

KDKB needs to did deeper into therir vaults you guys play the same songs over and over In new york they have a few rock stations and they dig deep with the rock music.. Last time I checked LED ZEP has more than 6 songs same with AC/DC And Boston and ect.. Now to JR & Mary they rocked in the Morning goodtimes and good laughs.. The station has been going downhill since Tim and Mark left- however these last couple years of Alice Cooper, then the morning show had turned up something that I hadn’t heard in my car in years! But they’re throwing it away! If you get rid of Ruby and Dee, the station is gone. I’ll go back to talk radio and feel myself age by 15 years.
I just want to throw it out there- Steve King has the voice for radio, ill give him that, however the personality for it is lacking exponentially. JR could talk to himself for hours and it would be entertaining.

I drive to work at 0400 and it was enjoying to make the ride for 40 min. with Alice – then all of a sudden he’s gone and the drive in sucks. I was told he wasn’t having a good rating and they had to save $$$ someplace. Well they certainly saved a bunch now by axing JR & Mary – they made my morning!! The only good thing left is House of Hair on Saturday mornings but other than that, my dial is set elsewhere. The station is just no fun to listen to anymore. Sure hope management pulls their head out of their butt and gets the station back on track or they’ll have bigger financial issues than Alice to worry about when they have NO listeners!!!

Ok, I am trying very hard to listen to the new morning show with Steve & Amanda. I am not getting it. There is no fun in it, personalities suck, it’s like listening to AM talk radio show. Sure do miss JR and Mary. Fix the situation KDKB. I have listened for many, many years. Please don’t make me change the radio dial off of KDKB. Turned on KDKB this morning and Steve King is there but what happened to Amanda?
One of the things I don’t like about KDKB is when something happens they make no announcement on their website! The website is totally useless as far as knowing what is going on with the staff!
I don’t miss JR and Mary but loved Alice Cooper and I don’t know why they canned Marci?
KDKB has some serious management issues I think the personality changes should take place a little higher on the chain!

I thought this was about a radio station canning 2/3 of a morning crew, not about what someone may or may not do in their personal time. Nonetheless, I still haven’t listened to KDKB since this change was made. Steve should have just stuck to his job title, “Program Director” and not weaseled his way on the air. I have spoken to him in the past about different changes that had been made (summary of which was “if you don’t like it, too bad.”) and also made suggestions about the playlist/rotation (less Metallica) to no avail. There sure seems to be more negative comments here than positive but do you think he (or Sandusky) will get it? Don’t hold your breath.

I am BEYOND glad the annoying duo are out! I admit I surf between 2-3 stations on my morning drive, but at least the other two stations are truly humorous. JR and Mary seemed to think EVERYTHING that ANYONE said was funny!
I got in the habit of listening to a song on KDKB then at the end of the song hovering my finger over the button to change stations if they even started to talk!
Good riddance! Now I can REALLY enjoy KDKB again!!

Phoenix Arizona’s Rock stations Here Have no spunk KDKB, KUPD, and KSLX All these stations that I named have the same lame ass playlist they need to dig deeper into the vaults and play the other songs that these bands have on that cd Tucson has some classic rock stuff that’s cool and they dig deep they dont just play back in black or bark @ the moon or stairway to heaven those bands their have other songs on those cd’s that are good too.. The Tucson station is 96.1 … Jr & Mary & Alice cooper why would you get rid of them what a dumbass decission on your part.. The mornings aren’t the same without JR, Mary and Watson. I was skeptical when they took over for Tim and Mark but grew to love them. It isn’t the same for me in the mornings now. I have a tendency to roam now. I wish them the best and hope to hear them on the air again someday soon.

I was loyal to KDKB until JR and Mary are removed. Now I listen to KUPD and wiped KDKB out of my radio presets. The morning show boring, bland, and of absolutely no interest. Thanks KDKB for ruining what used to be enjoyable drives into work.

Who in the hells idea was it to take them off the air? or i should say, who was the idiot behind that decision? time to switch to the other classic rock station.

Been listening to KDKB on and off for 93.3 years… okay, actually only about 35 years… but the point is they have gone thru so many changes over the years. They’ve had excellent line-ups, and some really sucky ones. The loss of Alice Cooper’s Nights and J.R., Mary and the Watson in the mornings puts KDKB into “listening off” mode again.
Alice Cooper gone? Really?
Replace J.R. and Mary with Steve? I don’t think so.
Guess I’ll have to find somewhere else to listen until management comes back to their senses.

KDKB’s higher managament is the issue and from what I know, the PD has been neutered by an old Mr. Burn impersonator and his Smithers lacky. The 2 of them have taken every idea that was given to him by the PD (King) and given it back to the PD the exact opposite of what was the PD wanted. From what I have heard, the PD didn’t want to fire JR and Mary and Hammer, he didn’t want to do be on the air, much less do mornings. Mr. Burns is trying to kill KDKB. And Smithers is along for the ride. Sacrifce another one for the sake of keeping KDKB down and letting KSLX and KUPD reep the benefits. They have been doing this for the past 10 years with the music, then the morning shows and then the PDs. The PD(s) isn’t the problem, it is higher ups the food chain. any loser who allows someone to neuter them is a weak, non talented idiot. clearly only a desperate loser would stay on and follow the leaders into a black hole of bad radio. steve is just as responsible for being a lame bystander collecting his check and sucking on his way down…
wouldn’t it be nice to know what king stands for…don’t defend that weak minded talentless zero. is kdkb really worth losing all your integrity? just so you can say hey im a pd at a rock station in phoenix… woo hoo. if he had any spine or depth, he’d move forward and find another gig.

even after being completely neutered by that drunk bob weaver king scraped up what litttle integrity he had left and is heading into obscurity..whether he knows it or not.
any radio station that looks at the crap music he plays and that ten dollar an hour fat skank stoner chick he hired will realize how clueless and out of touch he is about today’s audience. kdkb need not worry about any good talent willing to work with that idiot bob weaver…everyone knows what a complete jackass he is. if your a talentless moran,don’t worry, bob will hire you.

I’ll tell you what KDKB’s problem is. You go to their website and you see pictures of Guns N Roses, Motley Crue, Ozzy, ACDC and Metallica flashing around and then you turn on the radio and hear Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Counting Crows, U2, etc etc. They are promoting one format and playing 2 or 3 completely different ones and its pissing the people they are marketing to off.

I’ve listened to KDKB since it was KCAC back in the day – about 1969-1970…no wonder it’s in the Rock Hall of Fame it was innovative to say the least! Bill Compton, Dwight, Toad Hall and company…Great! Stayed that way for a long time (who could forget Tim and Mark)…but now – it’s just another KUPD/KSLX = what happened? get that mix of new and old going, a ‘behind the music’ scenario, bring in some new listeners with bands like ’slither’ & ‘rehab’ & ‘nickelback’. focus on Phoenix/Arizona stories – concerts.
. the morning show is like a electronic remote control from another city – not focused on the music or this town.

Changes coming to Phoenix, AZ Rocker, 93.3 KDKB. KDKB mornings will soon be covered in Sludge, actually, covered by Sludge, a.k.a. Brian Haddad, coming from Cox Radio/Richmond. Previous to Richmond, Sludge had a successful 10 years in Chicago radio, before he was run out of town by Rod Blagojevich’s mom.
KDKB Station Manager, Bob Weaver says “KDKB has had a history of great morning shows dating back to 1971. As we prepare for our 40th year (in a row) of serving up the best Rock, we wanted someone like Sludge who could help carry the torch as well as the 7 tank tops left over from our 20th….that we’ll be giving away to celebrate.”
And just what kind of show does Sludge say he’s preparing for Phoenix? “Since there’s not much going on right now in Arizona, it will be difficult to find things to talk about, so I’ll probably just read all the TMZ updates. That should work fine.”
