Norm Seeley reflects on radio being live

“Live” seems to be a luxury of radio these days, quickly becoming more and more of a rarity.

Norm Seeley (of KRUX and KOOL) has posted a blog this morning reflecting on live radio and providing us an audio clip eight minutes in length of a CBS broadcast aired on KOOL-AM, December 1, 1967. Lowell Thomas gave the news. Norm ran the network program from the studio.

KEDJ set for a morning show

KEDJ hires Jaime Cooley (former MD/nights of Alternative KNRK/Portland) to join Gadger in mornings. Cooley had been at KNRK for 13 years before getting fired in a round of Entercom budget cuts over a year ago. The music-focused morning show with Jaime Cooley and Gadger will debut November 2.

Book on radio greats include several of Phoenix

Nationally recognized radio historian, Radio & Records, and All Access columnist Bob Shannon is coming out with a new book. It’s titled Turn It Up!: American Radio Tales and it features several of the biggest names of radio– talent, programmers, the innovators, and brilliant ones behind the magic of radio.

Some of those included are names us Phoenicians may know: Larry Daniels, John Sebastian, Gary Stevens, and Todd Wallace.

KMLE’s Gwen Foster and Jeff West are out

KMLE’s Gwen Foster (middays) and Jeff West (afternoons) are no longer a part of Camel Country, leaving the Tim and Willy morning show as the only local talent. Jeff West had taken the afternoon slot after KMLE fired 20-year station veteran Big Shoe Stu in December 2008. The reason given for all of the above are the same: “budget cuts.”

Tim and Willy will be joining ABC 15 Daybreak starting Monday. (5-7am)

Austin Hill joins KIDO-AM Boise

Beginning Thursday, Valley talker Austin Hill will be hosting KIDO-AM Boise’s afternoons, 3 to 6pm. For the past couple of months, Hill has frequently filled-in on KTAR-FM for Darrell Ankarlo.

Jim Owen featured in Radio-Info publication

KSLX program director, Jim Owen, has a quote included on Radio-Info’s magazine edition of “Radio Done Right”. The magazine is set for the NAB in Philly this week.
